Of all European cities, Rome has most of historical palaces and villas still in private hands, due to the presence of many noble families aspiring to papacy in the bygone days: every time a new Pope was elected, another family came to power and was able to commission wonderful buildings and collect major works of art.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of these <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>palazzi<\/em><\/span> were acquired by the Government, some others are still owned by the illustrious families, but in any case most of them can be visited now. Some examples?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barberinicorsini.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Palazzo Barberini<\/strong><\/a>, which houses the exceptional <em>&#8220;Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica&#8221;<\/em>, but it would be a treasure even completely empty with its wonderful ceiling by Pietro da Cortona, the gardens, the staircases by Bernini e Borromini, the magical atmosphere of bygone days. Connected to this palazzo, is the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barberinicorsini.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Palazzo Corsini<\/a><\/strong> in Trastevere, same ticket, and a collection of the XVIII century<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doriapamphilj.it\/roma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Palazzo Doria Pamphilj<\/strong><\/a>, preserving\u00a0major works by Velasquez, Caravaggio and Raphael, but not only (it is one of the major private collections in Europe!)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not to forget\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.galleriacolonna.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Palazzo Colonna<\/strong><\/a> dating back to the XV century when the pope of the family, Martino V, started it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A world of splendour and opulence will be revealed in front of your eyes while you enjoy incredible masterpieces far from the tourist crowd.
